About
My work and background.
I work on generative AI in education, with a focus on assessment, academic integrity, equity and institutional decision-making.

I head the Centre for Research & Innovation at British University Vietnam in Hanoi. I hold a PhD in Management from the University of York and am an Honorary Reader in the School of Medicine at the University of St Andrews.
My research examines generative AI in education, with particular attention to assessment validity, academic integrity, AI detection, digital equity, governance and synthetic media. I work with universities, schools, governments and professional bodies to turn research into practical policy and educational design.
I am a creator of the AI Assessment Scale, a framework used by hundreds of institutions worldwide. I regularly speak and comment on how education can respond to AI without losing sight of learning, fairness or trust.
I am also the director of Learning Innovation Practice Ltd, a consultancy that helps institutions with AI and assessment strategy, policy and professional learning. It also manages licensing of the AI Assessment Scale.
